law abiding citizen

So I watched “Law Abiding Citizen” last night and yes, I did find it quite entertaining. It is a good piece of popcorn cinema, if you enjoy revenge movies as much as I do. The good guy turns bad because of all the shit done to him. The ending is a bit abrupt and I would’ve loved to see more character development and conflict.

But, on the grand scheme of things, I did however come to the conclusion that this film promotes some pretty fucked up views. It “sells” the police state, surveillance, the disregard of constitutional law for the “sake of the greater good” as a good thing. The director constructs a not very believable, and as it turns out, not very likeable psychopath domestic superterrorist and a white knight lawyer who used to be an asshole.

In the end !!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!!! the good guy turned bad dies (of course), and the bad guy turned good is on his path to redemption. Not without leaving the bad stinky smell of propaganda in your nose.
